The City of Casey and leading community agencies are aware of, and concerned about, recent serious youth mental health issues, including youth suicide in the local community.
As a result of the concerns, a local all agency approach was developed and the Youth Suicide Steering Committee was formed in January 2012. The Committee is an executive group of key stakeholders that ensure a coordinated response is developed for youth mental health in the local area.
The Committee is made up of representation from the City of Casey, Southern Health (ELMHS), Department of Human Services, Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, Independent Schools Victoria, Catholic Education Office, South East Alcohol & Drug Service, Victoria Police, Ambulance Victoria and headspace School Support.
The Committee recognises the importance of a collaborative approach to this issue and is committed to the ongoing work with the local sectors and agencies.
The purpose of this resource kit is to provide the community with current, accurate and useful information about youth mental health. The kit is a starting point for access to resources that are current and readily available to those working with young people and the broader community.
The resources in this kit have been divided into four categories to enable easier navigation.
- Immediate Assistance
- Post Incident
- Further Learning & Additional Resources
There is a wide and diverse range of resource material available both online and from agencies directly. Navigating online information can be difficult at times and the kit is designed to help navigate the information highway.
The selection of resources has come from reputable and existing service providers. There are additional resources available from these agency websites that are helpful and can be added to the kit.
